The clients (testimonial below) came to us with their vision of creating them a tiny 65-square meter footprint, sub-alpine, ‘off the grid’ luxury hideaway and that’s what we delivered – in spades – with the resulting ‘bach’ winning a swag of local House-of-the-Year awards, plus its category nationally!
We benched into the spur, to follow the natural lay of the land, and built with a north-facing orientation to capture the evergreen views apparent from every window.
Challenges included being sited in a very wet location bordering the Pouakai Ranges. It was steep in places, access was difficult and there was no power or water onsite. An industrial-strength generator was cranked into life and the build took eight months to complete to a very high standard.
“We’d just like to say a big thank you to all the people who helped create our dream. Without their varied skills and wide-ranging expertise, this project would not have been possible. While it was never our priority, the 2015 House of the Year awards is the ‘icing on the cake’ for us!”
