This project was an extension of an existing home which needed to be designed to European standards due to the owners originating from Germany. The idea was to create a separate studio for visiting in-laws to be based. The extension included an internal courtyard/deck area with a secret access door.
The challenge for this build was the foundation. We had identified early on that savings could be made by using a piled foundation rather than a concrete slab which also created a nice ventilation system under the home to keep warmth and dryness consistent.
We also recommended the use of Larch cladding over a Cedar option due to cost and sustainability.
